After a delayed start, the VW Racing Cup finally got into motion with Dennis Strandburg taking pole position, setting a time almost half a second quicker than competition around the Spa-Francorchamps circuit.

Simon Rudd proved his pace at the start of the session, becoming the first driver to dip into the 2 minute 50 second range, while championship leader Bobby Thompson was one of the last cars out of the pits as he quickly got up to pace on the 7km track.

As the times dropped, it was Jack Walker-Tully who went top with championship and fan favourite Phil Housejust behind.

There are a number of new entries for the flyaway weekend, one of them being Strandburg, who immediately proved his potential by going top with a 2:46.870. Thompson fell in just behind but it was clear the #4 was not slacking.

As the chequered flag fell, Strandburg held on to pole after improving with a time of 2:46.362. Joining him on the front row is Walker-Tully. The second row is be filled with the championship leaders Thompson and House.

The third row will see Rudd qualify ahead of Toby Davis who sat out the end of the session. While a number of regulars will be missing, 16 cars line up for the eighth race of the season.
